DIY Denim Fringe Wall

Did someone say denim on denim? Dig out those old jeans you’ve been hoarding because you’re convinced you’ll wear them again (we know you have them), and give them a new life as this stylish fringe backdrop!

Materials

LOTS of Denim
1/8“ Fishing Line OR Plastic Mesh Fencing
Scissors

Directions

STEP 1

First things first, find all the denim you can! Dig around the back of your closet, head to the thrift store, or just grab a few yards from a fabric store! However you get it, try and find various denim washes to add more dimension.

STEP 2

Cut your denim into strips in a variety of sizes between 1.5 inches to 2 inches wide. Don’t worry about cutting them straight, different pieces add character!

**We recommend leaving the strips longer than you think you need. You can always cut them for your desired look at the end.**

For Jeans

Start by cutting off each pant leg and cutting them in half, creating 4 panels total. Then, start cutting those panels into strips, leaving each strip the length of the pant leg.

For Denim Fabric

Cut each strip between 18 inches to 24 inches long.

STEP 3

Cut 3 or 4 pieces of fishing line around 6’ each.

STEP 4

Tape or tie a piece of fishing line to an empty wall and start knotting on each strip of denim, starting in the middle and leaving about an inch on the top. We recommend alternating the different washes if you have them. Keep knotting each piece until you’ve reached around 5’ in width.

STEP 5

Repeat this process with each piece of fishing line.

STEP 6

It’s time to hang this baby! We recommend starting from the top, so find the strand you want to be in the front and hang it at the highest point you want the wall to hang. Then, start hanging the other strands by staggering them slightly lower than the previous one.

STEP 7

Finish it up by cutting a few of the strips shorter to add more texture!
